Yesterday's Weapons Forums

Shown here is a native woman armed with what is obviously a Carcano cavalry carbine. she is attired as she went forth from her dwelling each day... without a blouse or top of any kind. If such nudity offends you, please do not view the pic.

I am not being a wise guy this time - it is an actual historical pic. I've contacted Don & if he pulls it, then I will not post such again.

As a bona fide collector of such arms, I find it very interesting and it leaves as many unanswered questions as you could want... like how she came to have it.

In any case, profound apologies if anyone finds it offensive. SW

...do you have any idea of an approximate year for this pic???....I can understand the 'garb'...(and/or lack of it.....but the hat...??? what other info do you have on it???.....I'm not up on carcano's-and sure as heck wouldn't have even guessed from what little I can see if the rifle...

As well as I can tell, the pics dates from the 20s. The fez was traditional garb for various desert tribes. The Brits called this tribe "Fuzzy-Wuzzy", but I can't recall the actual name.

If you become bored some time, turn your google-fu loose on "whirling Dervish" The whirling was an obscure part of their religious sect. Any pic I have seen of them showed fez head gear.

I believe the woman to be of that part of Africa - more toward the Soudan & maybe the corner of Lybia. The Eritrians & Somalis had finer features... for native Africans, that is.

As with most Russian photo sites, there was no caption or narrative. I am going from old encyclopedias & National Geographic magazines.

There is no question the carbine is a Carcano. The big tip-off is how the bayonet is deployed. SW

im not offended , i dont see anything offensive here , it is interesting just who armed the various areas , if this is wwII armament then this is axis arming if later hard to say
