Oh thanks while the knife was in me you had to go and twist it!!

Yep M91 caliber is 6.5. What arsenal is it and the date. The arsenal will be stamped on the top of the barrel next to the receiver and the date should be on the right hand side of the arsenal. The date might just be a 17 for 1917.

it's stamped Torino on top and on the year spot is 1894. I might have to get the bore slugged, cuz it sure looks bigger than 6.5, the rifling doesn't look bad at all for being over 100 years old, it's not great, but if it is safe to shoot, it should still get on the paper at least. The more I look at this, the more I like it. There were a couple of those carbines like you have, with the underfolding bayo, but without the bayo. I like the lines of the long guns myself, but after all, they are Italian ;)

I'll leave go the knife now :lol

Wow thats a nice OLD one! And with the matching correct stock!! According to the info I have that arsenal only made M91's and only made them from 1893-1898. I think yours might be on the rare side but I'm not the expert here.

This is a warning! Stop now and run!! The Carcano's (to me at least) are addicting. I had planed on only getting one of each style but that didn't work!

That's a nice rifle to start with. If they had the Cav carbines but missing the bayonet's that's a bummer. Depending on the price the bayonets are not cheap. I have seen them sell from time to time and they get up there in price.

Thanks for removing the knife, i'll just bleed out here in a bit :D :D

If you get bored with the rifle let me know!!

Nice Torino M91 long rifle, Torino examples seem to be harder to find than other makers.

The stock cartouche looks like an Ordnance Roma Riparazione (rework) catouche so I don't think the stock is original to the rifle and it also looks like the serial number was restamped over an another number.

The cleaning rod screws into the front band and a little oil applied there and a screwdriver inserted into the patch slot with a little gentil wiggling back and forth should free it up.

Is there a "Tubata" stamp just foreward of the makers name?

sweet! i've been looking for a torino or an early brescia for the last 3-4 years, and have only seen 2 chopped up torino's for sale in all that time.

bore could be overlarge, with a rifle that early. try a bullet test at the muzzle? I don't think these were counterbored, with the progressive rifling. haven't seen one that was counterbored, anyhow.

you got a nice rifle, and at a good price too! congrats! Keith

The seller said it was unmarked, but I thought with the scabbard it was a good deal. Some of the others with no scabbard looked like they were climbing, so I bought this now, for 69.00. I don't have anything to compare it too, pricewise, but it seemed reasonable.
