The lighter wood is beech - called "faggio" in Italian. There was a LITTLE walnut left as late as the early 40s. Beretta had a small supply rat-holed, and I have a 1940 Brescia with a nice walnut stock.

Almost all is beech, though.

The really good walnut was used to extinction in WWI for most of Europe. Turkey still had a lot, but France, Germany & Italy only had what they had put back.

Add 1922 to the Roman numerals for the year. For example, XII would be 1929. 1922 was the year the fascists took over & started the new dating system. SW
