Well I'm crossing my fingers on this one. I saw it at auction with a buy it now for 175.00 and when I saw the matching wood and the cartouche I thought I would go for it and hope It's got a nice anchor on the metal someplace. The serial number is only about 20 or 30 numbers (G prefix) away from one that is in Hobbs's book. Now all I have to do is wait

maybe i'm going crazy ( ) but that stock doesn't make sense. 91/TS type stock with 91/28 hardware on a 1943 dated rifle?

I guess that anything's possible with carcano's, but i'd expect m38 hardware on it. Hope it has the anchor! y'all have a good day, Keith

That is correct for an M91/38TS. I have one very similar except it has a walnut stock.

For comparison, look closely at an 8mm conversion... they were made from these! Which is why they are so scarce.... not that there many to begin with.

The REAL challenge? Find an M38TS... same thing in 7.35!!! People in heck wish for cold soft drinks, too! But I still look.

As for finding the anchor... look CLOSELY for it! I found mine with a loupe. On the bottom of the receiver ring, "40" had been stamped for the YOM... the 4 was stamped over the anchor & the seller missed it.

One of the big hitters told me abouot using a loupe & planning to take at least a half hour - very good advice! SW

While i have handled an 8mm m38 and an 8mm cavalry carbine (still tell pop i ain't gonna shoot them), I'd never considered they might have made one in 7.35. It was hard enough finding a cavalry carbine in 7.35, took over two years to come up with one.
well, the list gets longer. here i thought all that was left on it was a torino.....

Well here it is and yes it has the anchor marking of the Navy. It's a really nice little carbine and it's better then expected.




You can see the anchor impressed into the bolt root over the Beretta stamping.

Go over the receiver closely again - there should be an anchor somewhere there, too. This is a very nice example - must have been in an armory instead of combat use by San Marco marines or X MAS boyz. SW

I know

I have to get one of those loupe's (sp) for that. My eyes just don't cut it even with the cheapo magnifying glass. I think there is one on the rear tang in the grove but its a partial that is so week I don't want to say for sure. I gave it a nice poly job and it's all ready.












Just kidding about the polly. I BLOed it real good and it's next to my cav carbine that is in as good shape.
