Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

I posted pics of my AOI 1870/87 Vetterli on an Italian site and asked for comments. A collector then posted pics of HIS 1870/87 AOI Vett... and of an 1870/87/16 Vetterli with the AOI brand.

On Gunboards, one of the self-appointed experts said the 6.5 Vetterlis were never sent to East Africa. :hah: :roll: :crzy: I believe we now know different.

Moral of the story? It's okay to listen to the 'experts' but always explore every resource in your research.

Top is my 10.4 Vetterli - the 2 bottom pics are from Italy. Looks like the fellow sanded his. He has encouraged me to give some of mine a "facelift".

He certainly means well, but I like the 'veteran' look! 8-) SW

Funny I have an 88/90 Straight-pull in 8X50 that has an AOI brand in th stock. (Also has Serbian "C" marks & Brit Broad arrow markings.......It has been around I guess :lol )

The Brit marks are from India. When the Brits invaded Italian East Africa from Kenya and routed the Italians, they disarmed the tribes as best they could, taking things like you have. These were sent to India for use as trainers to free up Enfields for combat use.

And there was plenty of combat! The Serb mark? I'm not sure about that one. I'd only be guessing. SW

Reparations is my theory. Handed off to the Serbs, then they realized just how old it was & passed it on to the Italians?
