Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Thanks for joining us from the administration.

This 1914 Terni M91 long rifle is marked with the RE stock cartouche which is very unusual. ( RE = Regio Esercito or Royal Army) This is from one of the Italian Africa colonies between the wars.

Italian army troops were issued rifles so marked, and native levies had rifles marked AOI ( Italian East Africa ) or CAS ( Corpo Afro Somali).

This was an attempt to keep arms trading and theft to a minimum. Supposedly, if native troops were found with an RE rifle, they were either shot or hung on the spot... assuming there was a convenient telegrapg pole. The AOI & CAS rifles were not supposed to be traded around, either.

But given native ingenuity and a pressing need for goats or another wife, I have no doubt many found new homes contrary to what the Italians had in mind.

It's not mine. I bid big but didn't hit the reserve. I think that was my cue to move along to another auction! ;) SW

It's some pawn shop in Fla. He has a bunch of neat stuff up for auction but is awful proud of it. I bid 250 & didn't hit the reserve so I passed the auction info along to other die-hard Italian rifle collectors.

I'm not much on reserve auctions, either. I can't see what's wrong with just set a price and let the market define itself. Another collector said he wanted it, too but didn't like the seller's attitude.

That & I'm trying to pile up $ for a belt fed! SW
