I finally did find production figures for this style bayonet in my notes. (I have GOT to organize my notes someday!!!!! ) To all you noob collectors I cannot possibly over-emphasize the importance of taking notes. Always add the date and source when taking them.

But I digress.

First type folder with lever lock: 28,000
Second type folder with button release: 349,000
Third type fixed bayonet = a welded up type two folder: 57,000
Fourth type dagger style fixed bayonet: 331,000

Total M38 bayonets: 765,000 Approximately. The figure is not that far from the number of M38 and M91/38 short rifles made, but I can't explain why one bayonet was not made for each rifle.

For makers, I have identified Rocca, Perrierstange ( not completely sure of that name - always marked as 'PS') Castelli, "SBF" ( I flat don't know that one) and L Franchi which is usually spelled out.

For some reason, the welded up bayonets seem the hardest to find. I had one before I knew that and sold it to a friend. SW
