These are the 2 cav carbines I got on a blind buy. The seller had no pics and the worst possible description ever. "bayonets are in tact"

After I was done jumping with joy that I had two nice, complete cav carbines, I took them apart to look the marks over.

One is a very late war Gardone. Just a serial number and nothing else. I pulled the action from the stock to find "L Franchi" under the tang. Until now, I had believed his name only appears on post-war 7.9 conversions. I'm checking with the usual suspects in Italy about it.

The second is a 1941 FNA with a star in a circle on the front sight/bayonet mount. This is a post-war Repubblica Italiana mark and is quite scarce.

I had intended to sell one but have abandoned that idea.

Oh. The fellow included a bunch of SMI 943 6.5x52 steel case ammo. I won't be shooting any of that - I'll just put it away as an example of late war ammo. It was even on clips!

Now he wants me to make an offer on a "c 41 long rifle". I should probably just leave well enough alone. SW

I have become very attached to them, Mr Wacko. Not selling! :P ;) I had that idea before I found the markings.

Franchi is still in biz - same family - and makes shotguns to this very day. SW

  Nice find. Sometimes you just get lucky. A couple more Carcanos and you may have to buy an old boxcar to store them in. :jmp: :rotflma: :lol
