Yesterday's Weapons Forums

I told JJames in the something new forum I'd post pics of a US naval officer's sword, and away we go! SW

It's marked 'Germany' which could indicate it was made after 1890 when country of origin had to be shown on imported goods. It was fairly common practice for US officers to order from the big German sword firms due to their quality. Given the quality and cost of shipping, this one could have set someone back a hefty sum of personal money.

With a 33" blade, the owner must have been tall - blade length was figured on end user's height.

Overall shot - I omitted the scabbard since it's plated, and I don't photograph those well.

Wire wrap remains tight and ray skin is intact.

American components of the etching - 'E. Pluribus Unum' and 'US'.

Country of origin and maker's mark. I *think* it's by WKC - a top sword making firm.

Cast guard features an American style eagle and 13 stars.
