Post subject:  What could this be?

First, I apologize I took pictures of this bayonet with my phone, and am unable to get them off my phone at this stage in the game.

I found a 20 inch bayonet in an antique shop. Complete with leather scabbard. It's similar to an Italian bayonet, but is not.

Has wood grips. The cross guard is short on one side, and longer on the other to accomodate the muzzle ring.

I can find two markings on it. On one side of the blade is what appears to be a serial number P.R.8.
above 1702

And on the flip side of the blade what looks like a makers mark that is very worn.

I will post photos when I can. Thank you in advance for any id help.

First let me :welcome: to our group.

If you have a card reader slot on your computer just take the card out of your phone and insert it to your computer. You may need to resize the pics if your phone settings are not set to 640 x 480.

Thats the issue I'm having, my computer lacks a card reader. I was hoping to fool my actual camera into reading the card, but no such luck. I should be able to rip the pictures onto my work computer this afternoon, and get them up here soon.

Awesome, and you did that sight unseen. Now, here's my next question, what rifle is this for?

Welcome to the forum. How much did they want for it? My local antique guy had a sawback German butcher bayo with a leather scabbard for $200 ,it seems some times these guys price the stuff to high or real low.

I think our pal, Andrey is responsible for driving up butcher blade bayo prices! :rotflma: :rotflma: :rotflma: SW

I plead guilty
But you are just jealous ! :Dbounce:

200 is too much, even for a sawback butcher with scabbard.
The Spanish ones are not worth much, I'd say 30 max with the scabbard.
