Motif of the handle appears to be Polynesian - otherwise I'd guess Pakistani/Afghan. Strictly a guess on my part. SW

interesting piece ,

this reminds me of how important it is to tag what we collect and keep some recorded data for those that will inherit

I agree with you on that one A square. Wish he had, from what I have been told Uncle Dan worked all over the world and collected swords and spear but only old ones no reproduction or tourist stuff. Hope to get to go see the whole collection over the weekend.

An ID at last. Showed it to a collector of swords and other edged delights and after a bit of digging in his reference stacks he came up with the answer. That funny looking sword is a Flyssa and was used by Moroccan tribe called the Kabyles.(hope I spelled that right)
He thinks it may be from the late 1800's.

A general utility knife? Ceremonial? Looks a bit long for fish cleaning. SW

Don't have an answer for you NebrHogger. The blade is 33 inches long with the back of the blade 1/2 inch thick at the hilt tapering to a bit under 1/4 inch at tip and very sharp. With the brass hilt it balance s very well in the hand. The needle point it has seems more indicative to armor penetration than fish gutting. It shows a good bit of use though and looks like near 1/4 inch sharpened off original blade. Doing a bit more info hunting now that I have a name and tribal information. If anything interesting comes up I'll add more to the post.
