Hard times and all here. Strike = Broke. No way around it. Saw these and just sighed, pulled out the wallet and said something vague about taking one for the collection. http://yesterdaysweapons.com/phpBB2/alb ... ?pic_id=97 Ciggarette case, fully functional. Elastic strap inside intact. No Kanji or marks of any kind other that the artwork on front. Muzzle cover is O.G. Brass. Welcome to all the new members! Not around much the last few months...the more I look, the more I want...can't afford any of it right now. jon |

I'm guessing so Don. Or someone in industry, maybe just patriotic. The one thing I do think is that a Japanese ground pounder didn't have the freedom of money or spare room for something like this. But it could have been a present from family or squadron mates. Again, could've been anybody's. The crossed National/Army Flag motif was very popular at the time, and the addition of the star(symbol for the Army) is a strong hint that someone in the Army smoked from it....just guesses now. I'm going to try to research this one today. jon |

Nice! Cases like that were popular, and I'm sure if it were issue, commemorative, a gift or just bought by the fellow who owned it, it was a useful item. Lots of "Tourist" stuff from the pacific campaign were actually hand made items from the troops hands, made for their needs by them. Ive seen pictures of troops making sandals, web gear, knifes and the like...because they needed them, and craftsmen were among the troops, and they made what they couldn't buy (Like some guys I know ) Sure wouldn't want my rollys crushed diving to ground at the sound of artillery. |
