Those are nice spanish and turtle helmets you have. Most of the ones I've been able to find look like they've been drug along a bad country road. IMA has really nice spanish ones, with the crest on the front, but spendy

Actually the paint looks right for a border guards helmet, but I can't remember what size vent hole they had. The names do sound german, it till looks cool. I bought so many books on stuff, it'll take me a few months to get thru everything. I got one that's just on the german stahlhelm. I'll check in there, see if they have anything on other countries using them

All of my books on German helmets cover WWI through WWII. I don't recall any that cover post war use.

My sole book is Stahlhelm: Evolution of the german steel helmet by tubbs and clawson ISBN 0-87338-677-9

It lists the M35 as being used by norway, and lists the diferences between the M35 and the M35/40, as being mainly how they rimmed the vent. I don't know if you can tell by pics only. I still want one :lol

Stinkpotpete, you are right, the difference between the M35 and the M40 were in the grommet around the vent holes. The M35 used a separate grommet that was pressed around the hole while the M40 was simplified by using a stamped boss around the hole. The M42 was the same as the M40 but was produced without the rolled rim around the edge of the shell. It is hard to tell just by a picture unless it is a very detailed close up on a clean shell.
