So I thought I'd show you this one, it's an original Patton 1914, dated 1918.

Under the U S there's a stamp that looks something like a fire, and under that it's stamped No 12. No idea what that means

My dad bought this, and it hung from the ceiling in our basement when I was a kid.

Seen a couple of these over the years. Not my thing, but I still think they're kinda neat...
I'd like to see one made into a knife though. Just for %*&^'s and giggles.
Nice blade, and may it stay in your familly for a very long time.

all i have in swords is an M1840 heavy cav , ill try to take better photos later , this is what i have for now ,

....may have been 'personal'-but carried Military?-dunno....old family sword....as early as late 1800's-early 1900's....still doing research in the meantime-very complex area,and even harder when you're trying to read Kanji... :lol

cool. I knew that the officers carried family blades, but I thougth that the military issued swords too. A guy that my dad worked with had a sword he brought back. He told my dad that it was a very fancy jewel encrusted piece. The guys wife didn't like it in the house, thought it was too dangerous. So she set it out with the trash 1 morning after he had left for work, and never told him. he found out 1 day when he went looking for it. Needless to say, he wasn't happy.

Patton sabers run a minimum of $300.00-350.00 now. Even more if the sheath is the tent pole type and intact.
The shorty you saw was done early in WW2 for use as a machete in the Pacific Theater.
Sabre knots are a vital piece of equipment and would be leather on an issue Patton. They are essential to keep the blade from being lost and prevent it impaling the trooper if he is unhorsed.

describe the "tent pole type" scabbord for the patton sabre for me please , i was not aware there were more than one , i rather like stinkpots example is that one of these ?

Patton understood that the nature of modern warfare and its weapons would preclude the noble exchange of the Phrase-des-armes that characterized earlier periods. They have the capability to compete with other brand of swords as we are talking about its endurance and quality. This is another perfect warfare creation.
