Pvt Giovanni is in the tank corps. This particular helmet isn't actually tank corps issue but is the same pattern and was used post war by Italian motorcycle police. It's dated 1964.

The goggles are the real deal. I got the bid on a real 1930s issue Italian tanker helmet today and sent off payment. They are very similar, but the genuine article has a black liner while the newer one has a natural leather color headliner. The combat vet helmet shows hard use, too. Kept some tanker from bouncing his dome off tank parts while clanking around North Africa. :-o

Pvt Georgio is your basic grunt somewhere in the Ukraine. The helmet is a 1933 pattern, and the gas mask is dated 1939. These could actually have been used in the Russian campaign along the Bug River. Maybe. If you let your imagination loose to play.

Also shown are the cannister - smooth as opposed to the fluted gas mask cannister used by German troops - and a dagger-style M38 bayonet. While I have no actual proof, I have read in a couple places these were often just used as fighting knives. You can form your own opinion that way.

No pic of Pvt Guido yet. I've got a pretty good assortment of equipment for him but lack the main ingredient - a pre-war wool greatcoat. I get that, I'll buy a mannequin & get serious about the display. SW

This will be Pvt Guido. I have everything seen in the pic but the wool greatcoat... well, that & the mannequin. There was a reason they wore the heavy coats in the desert, but it escapes me now...

I've seen pics of DAK troops so dressed and French foreign legion, of course. I also have some vintage pics of troops just wearing shorts, sandals & a cloth cap. I dunno. SW

I could still have a Mario display... I got the bid on some more stuff just now... and I should be getting field kitchen items in today. Vintage 1943 I-talian cooking stuff.

Pvt Mario could be making some nice-a camel booger ravioli or spaghetti! BBQ-ing some camel toes... fricasee-ing some figs... deviling some-a dates.

She would probably have an opinion about that... like having a taxidermist stuff ME & me wear all the gear.

She sez the heads shown creep her out at night when she checks her e-mail & stuff downstairs.

Yes, they shot him a couple of times, then they finally dropped him into the Neva River through a hole in the ice since he wouldn't die. (Did they use one of those overpowered Nagant pistols I wonder? :lol

They didn't use near enough arsenic, either. You gotta give 'em credit, though - they kept after it til they got-r-done!

Should'a strung him up fer bayonet practice in the 1st place! :mad:

Back to the original topic: I got my real-deal mess equipment in & now to score some Italian sausage & make my own sauce from basic ingredients using actual army utensils! Might even cook some of the stuff on the charcoal grille.

I checked at Safeway and no cow toes, though... didn't bother to ask if they had any of the other!

Hey, Mario! You have a good tomato sauce recipe? :bigrin:
