Well I always wanted one of these but I could not see spending the cash for an original, plus they are hard to find and with so many good repos, you never know what you might get. so I took the safe route and bought a repo. But it fills a hole in my collection. Here are some pics! |

OK here is the history as stated by Jerry Janzen. U.S. Navy Model 1861 Dahlgren This Bayonet, designed by the famous wepons designer admiral John A Dahlgren. It has the Distinction of being the first U.S. knife bayonet. It was used on the Model 1861 Plymouth/Whitneyville '69 Cal. short Musket rifle. It is a massive and spectacular Bayonet. It has a strangely made heavy blade with brass guard and backstrap/pommel and a one-piece wooden grip. It weighs over two pounds and has a brass mounted black leather scabbard. according to Hardin, this piece was produced in four distinct variations. |

This is why I bought a repo. I can't belive the cost of these. I just saw another yesterday and the bid was up to $568 it had no scabbard and the blade was rusted. |
