What do you think?

I heard a few years ago that the Gov't was thinking pretty seriously of replacing the M9 after hearing years of complaints about lack of power from the 9mm chambering.
While things seem kinda quiet right now, I think its inevitable that a replacement will have to be sought out.

One thing was made quite clear - they do not want to go back to the 1911.
It has to be something "new".

My entry would be a Hi-Point in .45 ACP.

Not pretty, but it works.
More reliable than an AK-47, two equal the price of an M91/30 Mosin-Nagant on sale at Big 5 (and you gotta admit, THAT'S cheap!) and accuracy is at least on par with the M9 and the 1911.
For the life of me, I don't know why the switch hasn't already been made to this gun.
...but then, we are talking about the U.S. government.

So, if it were up to you, what would you replace the M9 with?...or would you?

Your joking right? Have you ever field stripped on of those? PITA to get back together. Striker is basically a piece of wire. Oh yeah and there have been some real interesting Kabooms with them, where the slide came back and hit the owner in the forehead. If that is all you could afford and all you are going to do is run a box of shells through it once a year and keep it in the nightstand for bumps in the night I reckon it would be OK, but to carry into battle and stake your life on it, I think not. Pot metal and plastic to not instill much confidence in me. From what I have heard from some of my SF buds they are using 1911's and same with some of the SEALS.

I think there's been a slight misunderstanding here.
I am not asking for opinions on the Hi-Point, but what would YOU replace the M9 with, or would you replace it at all?

As I posted in the poll forum;

They are already using the M11 (P228) 8-)
Why mess with perfection? They need to issue on a wider scale that's all

Somehow my second post disappeared thought maybe it was to harsh and a mod zapped it. Basically it was along the lines of Petes post. I think I even mentioned a crack pipe, I would be and as former military still am insulted beyond words that some ass munch with the combat experience of a typical mall ninja would even think to send me into harms way with a piece of plastic and pot metal junk.

I carried a 1911, and though I do not speak about my time or actions in the service I can assure you it was quiet effective, the 9mm was pawned off on us muck like the M16 to make us compatible with NATO and to allow troops to carry more ammo because we quit teaching our guys how to be rifleman and went to the spay and pray mentality.

Hope I didn't ruffle anyones feathers, but than again who gives a chit.

I was going to swap the kimber off for a Hi-Point in .45 ACP so I could have a proven combat handgun but I took off my tin foil hat and changed my mind at the last minute :lol .

it also prevents abduction by aliens & mall ninja's 8-)
