Just been re-reading Bishop and Drury's "Combat Weapons". In an intro into WW1 MGs, the picture a LMG which they refer to as MG 08/15. Tubular receive, air cooled. Developed from a WW1 aircraft gun and converted for WW2 ground use. But, in the article on the MG 08/15, they show and describe a Maxim derivative. Lightened Maxim with a stock and pistol grip. Different fish. Looked for it in Smith's "Small Arms of the World". It mentions an MG 15 that fits the story....but no pics. What's the deal? |

That's one of them.....weighs 39.7 pounds, complete. There was an air-cooled version late in WW1. MG 08/18. A bit lighter. Other one is, entirely different. Tubular receiver....much lighter Developed from an aircraft gun. I am guessing the writers got it wrong and it is, really, the MG15. |
