I have recently seen articles on reloading cases from Tokarevs, but I cannot remember where. The discussion centered on whether it was Ok to reload these cases, because they were fluted from firing in the Toks.

Do all of the Tokarevs have fluted chambers? I used to think that the fluting extended farther back on the case, but it looks like from the pictures that the fluting is just around the neck area.

Do all rifles with fluted chambers have similar amounts of this or do some have it extending farther back? I know the H&K 91 is fluted but are there others (non machine guns)?

I think it was me that posted that oldernavy.
Check this link.

I've already cleaned and reloaded the same cases.
They still look a bit dirty, but good enough to shoot with.
No or very minor damage which is most important for me to determine whether to reload them or not.
As far as I know all Tokarevs SVT40's have fluted chambers.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

I had to dig down into my old stuff since I long ago shot off most of those cases which were reloads and those cases just wore out. These are from a 'battlepack'..AP, Tracer,Incindiary, ball that are stored and ready to go.
Can you see the gas flute scars on the 2 cases. Some used to go all the way and the case would be striped. These were reloaded and wiped so some of the markings were lessened. Those are different cases in each photo, must have loaded inciniary and ball out of the same batch of cases...

Thanks M14man,

The pictures tell it all. Some have chamber flutes just from the mouth to the neck and shoulder while others have flutes extending a good ways down the case body. Very interesting. The flutes are smaller and more numerous than I would have thought.

Flutes rehashed....:P

I think Tokarev was the first to put them on a production rifle. His svt-38, that eveolved to Svt-40. His early work used 6.5 Jap, for the mild recoil and good extraction qualitys.
I belive 7.62 H&K 91 (G-3) have the flutes,,,,maby the 93 also.
They make a buffer for the H&K's that clips on the rear edge of the ejction port that spares brass the dents.

I'm thinking too, that the Germans had flutes in their MG-45,the schedualed replace ment of the MG-42, with a fixxe barrel and a "halflock" delayed roller action that was later made as the ???MG-720???(WAG) In Switzerland. Flutes helped with eztraction, as there was only thrust, no primary extraction to loosen things up, like a rotating bolt...The Mauser team went to Spain after the war with that on the mind, and came up with the Cetme.
My Grendel P-30 .22mag pistols have flutes too....
