Well I got this one on the way.Guys shipping it out to me tomorrow, so I should see it after Christmas. I need to find some cheap inch pattern mags for it. It is one of the century imports, the receiver is marked made in Canada. I don't know much about these. I think they were earlier imports. I would like to find a nicer butt stock for it, though I don't mind the sporter stocks. I have an SLR AK with one and I like it. Attached is a teaser photo of it, till I get it and can take more.

Dan, I believe the canadian marked uppers are Imbel made. These should be able t function properly with Metric magazines. What you can do is get yourself an L1A1 Kit & you can make it 'right'. I have one that is built on a later Century receiver which mimicked the Imbel type III metric, It works with metric & Inch mags (but the inch are really tight & need a little file work on the front lip)

What would the kit change? Where can I get one? How much are they? The rifle was not cheap. So if it's not going to increase the value it might not be worth it to me. I am looking for a different stock, and there are only two for the inch pattern, but there are six for the metric pattern. Is there a way to tell if the rifle takes metric or inch pattern mags?

When you get it you can tell by the magazine itself. The metric has rounded lip in front. The inch has more of a squared off one

Inch left, metric rigth

Now the receivers

Inch left again

with a kit you would get everything but the upper rcvr. You would have a complete stock set, a non PC barrel (bayo lug/FH to go on it) locking shoulder & lower internals. To change out a barrel isn't really tough. Easy to headspace with a cheap set of MSC pin gauges. Check over at some of the FAL forums, there is complete info for builds.

Wow! I just looked. They aren't cheap anymore!!!!!!

I'm glad I got mine when I did @ $125

I also am holding on to a G1 & 2 Imbel kits I bought some time ago
for $80 each.

They are out there, you just have to look. ioinc.us has the plastic pebble grain stock set for $ 20. You can always get a threaded barrel or thread yours for the FH/MB combo. Much cheaper alternative

OK, Here it is! but what is it. The barrel seems to be original military issue with the flash hider removed. So can I get the correct flash hider for it?I also want to put a standard stock on it. It seems to take metric mags which suprises me cause I thought the canadian rifles were in inch. So do I need a inch pattern or metric pattern stock?

It looks like an inch lower but can't tell for sure with the stock covering the back end. The Inch lowers have a rounded little extension at the bottom of the lower

Image

Metric lowers do not

Image

You can put an inch lower onto a metric upper & vice-versa. Barrels will also fit the thread patterns with the exception of the Israeli barrels. As stated before the Canadian marked receivers, I believe are actually Imbel type III Metric uppers. I have had mine in many different configurations, sometimes with a US made metric lower & Izzy furniture.
When you have a Metric lower, you have to use an Izzy rear sight to mate up to the Brit front sight.

It is an "inch" lower. I ordered some replacement furniture for it from century today. The next question is, where the pistol grip meet the reciver on some of the rifles there is a stud sticking out of the bottom, mine does not have this. Do I need it to attach the pistol grip? I had seen a web page where they were selling and adapter for rifles that had the studs removed, but I can't find the page again. Any ideas?

I believe the metric lowers have the 'stud' to attach the pistol grip. The L1A1 has a screw that is accessible from inside the lower.

Forgot to add, from the pictures it looks like you have an L1A1 barrel that was cut back just behind the threads, you can see the slot in the bottom for the FH key wahser

Well A little reasearch confirms, the barrel is cut just behind the threads. Is redoing the threads something anyone could do or only gunsmiths? I don't think it will affect the rifles value, due to the fact these are parts guns.

Well I have my L1A1 and I got 10 mags for $50 from interordance, I am trying to get the original style stock parts now. I am thinking of doing the Vietnam tiger stripe kit from duracoat on it. Has anyone done one yet and how hard is it to do. I have refinished several wood stocks before but never did a paint job on one. The pic they have on the web site is what it is suppose to look like when I am done. I don't want to send it out though, its a do it my self or not at all.

I've only done the Krylon route :lol

Used various materials as 'stencils' & have had OK results.
