the OGCA show took place last month and it is usually a great opportunity to find odd things you don't see at most shows. Chris LaPlant ( nice guy who deals in surplus goodies) was there and among his selections was a few of the 600 SIG 220 pistols in 9mm imported from Switzerland by Dan's Ammo recently. These are drying up quickly so naturally I had to get one. These are Swiss police pistols and thus far all I have seen have the Geneva crest on them. All all I have seen are very early with the pinched nose slide and rather than a lanyard at the bottom, a metal projection I assume is to help protect the magazine release from being bumped.
The SIG 220 in 9mm was adopted to replace the excellent but expensive SIG 210 in 1975. This model with its small magazine capacity and heel release for the magazine is looking a bit dated but nevertheless remains in service as such in Switzerland and in Japan. This one shows a fair amount of carry wear but was mechanically fine. Earlier today I shot some walnuts sitting on the ground in my back yard with it (it was raining and I really did not want to set targets) to my pleasure I nailed all but one, coming very close to it. This was shooting at roughly 12-15 yards. I was using Winchester white box 115 gr.
Right now these can be found, with just one magazine, for just shy of $400.
