Is there a way to date a Beretta modal 1934 by the serial number?

The slide should be marked "p.beretta cal. 9 corto-mo 1934 Brevet Gardone VT." This inscription is followed by the date of manufacture that was given numerically,followed by a roman numeral that denoted year of manufature on the Fascist calendar which began in 1922.This model was the most common Pre-war Beretta pistol and was widely used by all branches of the italian military. Examples are marked RM(navy)RE(army)RA(airforce)and PS(police).Manufactured Between 1934 and 1959. As qouted out of the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms by Ned Schwing

I just found one for $189, but the finish has piting on it, its dated 1942. I always wanted one but I don't really want junk just cause it's cheap. I have to decide on it by tomorrow.

As a 1942 what does the serial number start with compared to mine with the 6 digit starting with 89XXXX.

I went ahead and bought it. It was short money and it looks alright. Mybusa, it should have the date on the slide after the scrip. We need a better pic of the left hand side of the slide. What stamp is on the left side at the top of the back strap? Mine is REso it's an army issue. I'll put some pics up after tomorrow. I have to work a gun show, so maybe I'll look for some others.

Thanks for the info. Mine was a package deal with a Mas36 so I have to wait until I get them off of layaway and shipped here. The price for both items was a little over 500 and the mas36 is matching and original and the pistol looks good but they have no other photos to send.
