Original 1911's are over priced and over rated. I think you did well. I love the 1911 style pistols. They just fit well in my hand. I think the price on the military ones has gone out of sight. There was one at the local gunshop a world war1 frame that had been rearsenaled with a world war 2 upper and reissued in WW2. He still got $800 for it. Crazy!

thats not far off - but i agree its really outta site for what you get , $700-800 for a shooter is normal these days and $1500 for a correct [not necessarily collector grade ] is not uncommen , the real fine collectors are double that to start , but .........

i dont see those anyway so no need to be concerned , and i have my two correct so i dnt think about that eather ,
would like a shooter to preserve the two i have but then im giving in to not shooting my holdings - which i think is part of ownng them ,

whoever gets mine - gets what i got - a used pistol , and in spite of what anyone might say - im only gonna live a bit longer - im shooting mine - next guy can deal with a used 100 year old pistol as he sees fit , but its still working and cared for

I've wanted one of the Rock Islands since the first time I saw one at a show. I have not seen one since. Can't find any dealer around that carries them.

The RIA's landed in force out here a couple of years ago, but I don't see many of them around now. Yes, they are from the Philippines and I've read that the frames are castings, but are you going to shoot it enough to wear it out, I doubt it. I've had one of the 1911 clones from the Philippines myself (different brand name) and had nothing but problems with it, bad fit, bad barrel (weird water spots etched in the bore), disassembled itself while shooting, sights not regulated to point of aim, etc. Since I bought this new, I went back to the dealer with my troubles and he said, "I don't want to see it; it's under warranty, send it back to the manufacturer." I didn't want to go through the hassle of sending it back, so I got rid of it at a pawn shop.

There have been a few batches of 1911 clones from the Philippines, as far as I know they could all made in the same place, they just change the brand name. Once the distributor sells out the current brand name of the moment, they move on to the new name. Warranty claims after that may or may not be honored, as in, "Oh, they don't make that brand anymore."

Let's hope your RIA is fine, trouble free and you have a ball with it.
