Shoots good but ammo is hard to find. Have to make most of it.

Not so little. About the same size as a Colt Gov't Model.
Loads from the top like the broomhandle Mauser.

A Square, That is The slide wedge. Keeps the slide from comming off and rearranging your face when you fire it. :)

no , no , no , the diferance between ugley and homely is much diferent than that - ugly is a condition that all see right away - its irreversable and permanent -in the mind of the beholder :( ,

homeley is a reversible condition --either by change of a few cosmetic aspects or by a change of mental attitude , its a first immpression thing that every mother will tell you is only surface deep :) ,

so ............this is a neet looking pistol - i like the heavy looking design and intricate assembly - its machined in a way that makes me want to hold it , and shoot it ,
ask any mother - its exactly how they feel about their baby too :D

Privi makes ammo for these and a bunch of other odd ball obsolete pistols. The prices seemed reasonable. Ithink I saw an add in shotgun news for it.

May have been a war reparations turn over. I think they are cyrillic carvings in the grip. It is Military marked. Accepted in 1916

im really confused about all these 9mm rounds , i wish someone with the knowledge would post a definitive rundown on what they are - what they work in - and what the diferences are ,
i will admitt , ive only got pistols that shoot 9mmluger now but im looking at others and ordered the cz82 from bruce [even though i now have a friend that wants it worse than i - he is czech]

Tenboremag,

First, please do not attempt to shoot any ammo other than 9MM Steyr (or your own hand loads) in your M-1912, as no other round is safe!

9 Largo is not the same as 9 Steyr. 9 Largo is loaded hotter by several hundred feet per second. Further, the case dimensions are different, 9 Largo is larger near the case head and should not chamber in your M-1912.

Now, having said all that many of the M-1912's have undergone "certain modifications" over the years that will allow 9MM Largo, 9MM Luger, 9X21MM, 9MM Bayerd and even 38 ACP or 38 Super to chamber. That is in no way say that you can/should attempt to fire these cartridges in the Steyr even if they do seem to chamber ok. Some of the above are just too short, others are loaded way to hot for the M-1912.

Fiocchi offers 9MM Steyr and as others have stated there's still some old surplus to be found.

Now the good news, sort of, if you reload 9 Steyr can be easily made with a set of 38 Super Die's and 9MM Luger 115g bullet loading data. Load to no more than one grain less than max published loads and you'll be in the ballpark. As to brass, there are several offerings for 9 Steyr or Star brand 9 Largo also works very well.

Some of my Steyr accumulation...
