Firstly, thanks to Gungrubber for posting my pic of the Webley. It was made in 1917 and the cylinder is uncut, so takes the original .455 round. The bore is in mint condition and overall the finish is very good. The pic doesn't do it justice. It has the writing C.W.H Salter 6 SWB engraved on the backstrap. It seems CWH Salter served as an Honorary Lieutenant with the South Wales Borderers from 1918 to 1920. I have made a few enquiries, and I can get a copy of his medal card, which I must do. Webleys are still about here in the UK. I live in N Ireland , so the handgun ban does not effect me. You can still own some of the older handguns in Mainland UK, but under very tight restrictions. All the ones I have seen for sale are uncut, I have yet to see one that has been converted to take .45 ACP.

The Webley .455's normally fired a 265 grn round nose hollow based bullet, although there were some lighter rounds and one called the "manstopper round", which was basically a wadcutter. It seems there were large numbers of Webleys sent to the U.S, but the .455 ammunition was very scarce. To resolve this issue many of the Webleys were converted so that they could fire .45 ACP ammunition. This involved milling down the rear of the cylinder and the chamber throats were reamed out. The revolvers could then take .45ACP ammunition using moonclips. They could also fire .45 Auto Rim without the moonclips. It is always advised to use light loads, as a full power .45ACP would be sore on these old guns. Most of the Webley .455's in the UK have not been converted as there was never any real shortage of the .455 ammunition. Thats a very brief description, I could go on for hours and bore the hell out of you.
The first pic shows the original 265grn RNHB bullet and three manstoppers in various weights. The second pic is of some original manstopper rounds.
