After the Marine Legion spaghetti dinner Wedsnesday, I took 2 older vets up to my property to test their handguns. Both have concealed permits. One guy had never tried his pistol out. A Keltec DAO only .32ACP. (What a piece of junk) Thing must weigh 4 ozs loaded and be the size of a cigarette pack. The bull was about a foot off the ground on cardboard. I positioned him at 7 yds, and he bounced the first 5 rds probably 6 feet before the target. His 6th shot hit cardboard. When he went to reload it and was having some difficulty it was discovered he bought a box of 32 S&W longs...Duh...scary huh, and he has a concealed license. You are not going to get those in the mag... Having no more ammo, the 2 guys continued with a .380 Bersa owned by the second vet. Surprise, almost all were in the black. A decent little, mild recoiling pistol. After a few mags, I showed them the M1911. We moved back to 10 yards. One declined shooting it, the other, the first shooter, put all his rounds either in the black, or an inch out. The second mag likewise. He was amazed at the size of the holes in comparison to the one .32 on the cardboard bottom. He remarked that the recoil was not as bad as he feared. Heck no, at 37 oz's it is managable. Both these guys I am sure fired .45's while in basic, but that had to be back when I was a puddle jumper. His comment was the Keltec was gonna go, and he was going to pick up a Bersa for carry, and a M1911 for fun. In comment here, it is a little dishartening that the one guy did not know the difference between .32ACP and 32 S&W long. The latter is twice as long as the former, but he thought they were the same. How one could carry a pistol for a year, and never have tried it out is scary too. In a non threatening scenario, he emptied 5 rds into the ground. The 6th only hit because we keep telling him "Up,Up!!,your hitting dirt". In a bad situation, only the moon would be safe...But they enjoyed themselves, and we were safe, and they have a new respect for that M1911.
