For 45 Auto Rim. I got my M1916 Italian Tettoni break top revolver today and had ammo loaded. Dropped one in the cylinder... and it fell through! I fitted these precisely to my Italian Bodeo revolvers - also of 10.35 caliber.

Now I see the caliber designation has been peened on this - you can still read it, but it has been peened. A .432 slug for 444 Marlin falls through the barrel. A 45 auto slug fits. A 45 auto cartridge falls too far into the cylinder to be reliably struck by the firing pin...

Now I'm thinking 45 auto rim or moon clips. How thick are 45 Auto Rim rims? How about the moon clips with cartridge compared to rear cylinder gap?

The more I look, the more it looks like the cylinder may have been faced off. Which doesn't bother me that much if I can still make ammo for it.

My "Modern Reloading" manual by Richard Lee shows the 45 Auto rim with a dimension of .516" at the rim base. The shell body shows .476" outer and .452" inner dimensions. Compare this to the 45 ACP , base = .480" with shell body dimensions the same as the 45 auto rim. Overall length of both is 1.275".
A 454 Casul has a rim dimension of .512", shell body dimensions the same as the 2 45 loads. Of course it has a longer shell which could be shortened.
If you need a still larger round the 45 S&W Schofield has a .525" base, shell body .480" and .454". The 45 Colt has .512,.480 and .454.

If you know what dimensions you are actually at if none of these work. I can look some more.

Thank you for checking! I tried a loaded 45 round, and while it sinks into the chamber, there is very little sideplay. I just applied my vernier caliper to the rear cyl gap, and see dimensions consistent with what you have given me.

Now to score a couple moon clips. I think that way is more practical that buying 45 Auto Rim brass & the shellholder. SW

No Brit marks, and they weren't a bit shy about stamping heck out of everything they had. Possibly the importer altered some, but I still think it was done privately post-war. SW

If it is of importance the thickness of the rim on the 45 auto rim is .090. That is .030 thicker than a 45 colt which shows at .060.

You are right. Too much end play in a 45LC case. I have moon clips coming now and will load some 45 autos up as light as possible. I have data for 45 Schofield which is intended for the old top breaks. SW

Use Lead bullets only of course.
A gunsmith told me he had an Italian revolver brought in that had a broken top strap from being fired with .45 ACP ammo. He slugged the bore and found it was way too small for a .45 bullet.
