There's a Luger 9mm pistol for sale at the range shop.
It's an 1914 dated Erfurt, all matching, wooden grips and handle with slot for shoulder stock. Regular barrel lenght ("infantry" model). No holster and only one mag (aluminium bottom). Original blueing 60-70 percent. Asking price is 800, and he MEANS 800. What do you think ?

I was just looking at Luger prices yesterday... I think 800 EUD is the upper end of the price range in America for one like this... unless it would have an unusual unit marking like "UA" ( U-boat service).

Most of the buying decision for me would be how often I see similar Lugers for sale. SW

Lugers are few and far between over here.
If you manage to locate one that is half decent price is always over 1000.
That's why I'm hesitating on this one. Need to check the bore of course before deciding.
Don't really have the cash handy, but it could be a better investment than money in the bank ...

I recently got an erfurt dated 1916, all matching, with a holster and two non matching mags. Now I did get it for what the guy who put it on consignment wanted to net which was $700, however it was being listed for $1350. If it had the holster and every number down to the firing pin matched I would probably buy it for $800. The Erfurt lugers are the government arsenal made models and some see them as less desirable then some of the other makers. I like mine just fine, it is a luger and I can shoot it, plus I was happy with the price.

I didn't buy it (yet).
And it's still for sale.
I can't put my finger on it, but something doesn't feel right about this one. The top part looks like it maybe has been reblued or something. Maybe I'm wrong, like I said it's just a feeling.

For that much money, "When in doubt, don't" is a good way to proceed. There will be others come along. SW

gotta agree with steve on this , if it doesnt feel right dont go down that road , you will see another that speaks to you eventually , and this one if rushed into may become a thorn in the backside when that next one presents itself , just MHO

Can you get some pictures? The early Erfurts had some straw blued parts.

The gun is on consignment at the shop and it's against their policy to have pictures taken there
But in the meantime a nice Colt .32 came in. Model 1903 or 1905 ? I'll have a closer look at it this evening. he's also got a Walther .25 pocket pistol and what looks like a Russian Makarov. Maybe I can swing a package deal ...

be sure to check the barrel on the colt, they tend to be pitted.

The Colt will be a model 1903 hammerless. The first model 1903 is scarce - it has a barrel bushing like a 1911. Most often hard rubber grips - the later models more likely has checkered wood... stag grips are scarce & worth a premium. SW
