In my quest to find a webley or enfield revolver in the 455 or 45 conversion I have seen many different finish on the gun. some are a gray color on the frame but the screws have the black paint like finish. others look like a worn blue. what is the correct finish on these? does anyone know?

the correct early finish is rust blueing and an oil blackened one , later they were also matt sandblasted parkerized or phosphated and some treated with the suncorite paintlike finish of the FTR programs similar to the rifles , the gray one may well be a parkerized refinish or a worn original , and the blue - if it really looks to be blueing could be a commercial finish or a refinish ,

i have one or two that have a very worn original finish and that does tend toward the gray look

these photos of a few of my no1 revolvers are useing a gray backdrop so it enhances the gray look

but as you can see , with a white/light background they look black

Great pics, if they ever need a new home let me know. :lol So would you say it might be normal to find one with the park finish with scrws that have the black paint on them? I'll try to post the pics of it.

i think that looks normal , the paint may be an armorers work and it may be someone who took it down and wanted it to look 'right' but either way its a decent piece and id be proud to own it , often the markings make it interesting ,

very few service weapons that went thru the second war will be pristine , we get them as we find them , some are in good condition [cared for] and some are not [ignored or neglected] i like a weapon that was there and looks like it , i do have some that look refurbished and stored ,

dont pass on one that speaks to you but dont buy one based on what your told , these all have history - some are not what they say ,

finding a decent webley/enfield revolver these days can be a trial , hope someone is buying when my collection goes up for sale
