These are soldiers from a Dutch bicycle unit equipped with the Dutch M95 carbine No. 4 O.M. (Old Model).

We remember those who came over and take care of the graves of those who didn't return every year since 1944.
We don't need people to remind us.
Our reminders are buried here in Dutch soil.

martin , as you probably well understand , our society does need the reminders as many of ours are burried on foreign soil , some on dutch soil , and 'we' often seem to forget , at least a certain portion of our population do ,

i think those of us here understand and those of historic bent do as well , but our current school system has abandoned teaching about those that gave their lives for freedom ,

they like to dwell on self eteem for those with no self worth , on multiculturalism as a replacement for americanism , and on acceptance of 'alterior life styles' as the new norm ,

they need to walk among the crosses of normandy and your dutch cemetaries and note the americans that gave all to let them promote their silly view of the world ,

sorry for the rant - i often feel ill not live long enough to visit your beautiful country , and i believe a visit to those well maintained memorials to what it costs to preserve freedom , something i do hope to do before that proverbial bucket gets kicked ,

I couldn't have said it better myself.
English is not my first language, but I just have to react on your post.
Let me give you my personal opinion.
First of all it feels like someone stabbed a knife in my back when you wrote that your current school system has abandoned teaching about those who gave their lives for your but most of all our freedom.
What do those who survived and made it back have to say about that.
I'm sure they must feel betrayed.

You know what Michael......I'm sure there are thousands of Americans who feel like you feel, like there are thousands of Dutch who feel the way I do about this.
Problem is that those who don't make the news.
Don't worry........they only make a lot of noise, but when they have to act......they have to rely on people like you, me and all the thousands of Americans and Dutch who are silent now, but act when necessary.
