Even back in the 1960's, surplus M95's that hadn't seen lots of handling were not often seen. My M95 Stutzen in 8x50R was a pretty original piece, with walnut for a stock that looked like it was the original finish that had never been sealed in any way.

I have a Bulgarian rework of about 1939 or 40 vintage that has had a newly-made stock fitted (newly made around 1940). Stocks being made of wood, it stands to reason that as some point in the rework process they had more barreled actions than stocks to accommodate them. Hence, they had to make up some new stocks. Moreso for handguards, I believe. Anyway, the "newly made" stock has a fairly rough-ish finish, and is sealed with shellac or similar. Very basic. I don't know if some of original Austrian production was made this way.
