That was the ugliest and messiest thing I've done in a while. Probably didn't do it right. I'm putting this on the back burner for now, I've been laid-off and it's back to work Monday. I did re-aquaint myself with the functionality of boiling hot water for cleaning guns! I had wax all over the place, the plug wouldn't come out easily and like I said, it got ugly. I still think it's a 410, but shorter, then again, how does one load the enbloc clip when the rounds are so short, the 2 1/2" were short enough I thought, the 3" were too long but looked good! Idunno, enough today, time to crack one open.

Not that this is my area of expertise but the Brits do have odd laws about military "hi power" rounds maybe it was converted to pass their odd rules?

The 10.4x47R Vetterli came to mind,but it uses a .430 bullet and has a .637 rim,so I don't think it would work in a Steyr action. On second thought as well,why would it be smoothbore even?? Oh well,another bright idea of mine shot in the a** -TR

I have a ton of .410 ammo, maybe I'll cut one down and pop the primer. How long are the European .410's? I'll cut one at that length and see what happens.

English .410 is 2 inches, or at least that's what the converted SMLEs were

Make it from .303 brass, or try the old Western Scrounger, and it won't be cheap. That's all I know, maybe someone else might have more ideas

Agreed. But if it turns out to be the 2" .410, could a gunsmith hone the chamber the other 1/2"?
