The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username. which of the steyrs is the rarest the Austrian or tha Hungarian?
I have seen and own only one Austrian but every big 5 hav a good supply of Hungarians.
Which is best to have,collect,use?

I like the Hungarians....but then I'm Hungarian so go figure :lol

If you stick around Prez1981 is a really good authority on these.
Some models may be rarer as Steyr, and some a Budapest..

Thanks for the compliment. I would have to agree...the most difficult to find is the BRNO marked one that was assembled in Czech. post WWI...only about 5,000 were made. They have been popping up recently though, and I know of at least one guy who has quite a stash of them! Next in line would probably be Bulgarian contract M95's with the lion crest on the receiver. That's not including all the other scarce/uncommon variants like the Polish reworks, Italian reissue pieces, M95M's and M95/24s, etc.

Steyr made more long rifles than did Budapest (by far), but Budapest made more Stutzen and Carbine Stutzen than did Steyr. On the other hand, Steyr made nearly all of the Cavalry Carbines. There are a couple threads on the subtle differences between all of the variations. M95's in 8x50R seem to be much tougher to find, with long rifles being the toughest to find with original matching numbers.

As far as rifles/carbines made by Steyr/Budapest go...a long rifle made by Budapest with matching numbers on the barrel and receiver would be the scarcest. It would be nearly impossible to discern between carbines and stutzens for those rifles that have been reworked/rearsenaled, like most of the recent imports.

Whatever you do, be careful as the M95's really seem to grow on you and multiply!
