Thanks I saved that one as a Word file and put it away! I have always been leary of taking one apart. It's hard enough to put the bolt back in if the lug snapped in! Thanks goodness for the dime idea.

Being a veteran of the thumb wars (M1 thumb: battle of bloody nail,Hakim thumb: slam skin ridge, M95 thumb: blood blister twister)
I have learned a few tricks.

I put on a pair of cotton jersey gloves to reset the bolthead on an M95.
I sometimes use a dry terry wash cloth being careful not to catch the cloth in the extractor/bolt head. It really is easy this way and I am a lefty.

I read the link, but did not see the dime idea???

The dime idea is if you have a M95 bolt that likes to snap back when you are trying to put the bolt back, place a dime on top to help hold the bolt head out and remove the dime as you slid the bolt in!

It works perfect for me every time.

Mybusa,

Thanks for the tip. Your pictures are truely worth a thousand words. If I'm ever around there I will drop a dime on you. ;)

I have found after repeated tests what causes the boltheads to snap shut. If the extractor base or its corresponding trip surface is worn it will cause the head to snap shut. Often this can be remeded by respringing the base and giving it more curve. This can be done without breaking the extractor. It is that little projection at the base that catches on the wall and if the tension is not enough it rides up over the edge and the bolthead completely pivots back into battery. You will note that the camming groove on the opposite side is beveled to allow that little nib to easily ride back over the bolt shaft surface during bolt opening.
