Hello everybody!

I hope it's not a problem to give some information about a book, that I have written  . It's useful to identify the makers of weapons, ammunition and many other military stuff. Maybe someone is interested in it.

I'm not doing it for earning money, it's just a hobby.

"Deutsche Fertigungskennzeichen bis 1945"
(Secret German manufacturer codes up to 1945)

Although this topic has been dealt with before, the extent and utility of previous treatments has not been complete in the existing literature. My new book, resulting from long term research, will serve all collectors and military historians as a primary reference for identifying the manufacturers on weapons, ammunition and every kind of military equipment (clothes, pouches, helmets, medals and so on).

The book has more than 500 pages, is sorted in two ways (after codes and after company-names), contains all military code systems (early abbreviations, number-codes, letter-codes, LDO-numbers for medals & insignias and the RZM-numbers for NSDAP- & SS-equipment). I have also added about three pages with identified codes following "ozz" (like "swj" for Steyr and so on). There are many mistakes in names and addresses in the old lists. I have check EVERY name and address, so I hope to have limited the mistakes to the minimum.

The text-part is written in German and English language.

It's very important to know the background and the development of the code systems. I have found many original documents in archives to reproduce the way of the development step by step.

The price is 32,- EUR in Germany incl. registered shipping.
In Europe it's 37,- EUR incl. registered shipping.
To the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan it's 67 USD by airmail incl. registered shipping.

With best wishes from Germany
Michael Heidler

Der buch seiht gut aus, aber nicht viele hier konte ubersetzen. ,but you did a something few authors do and that is provide a second language (English) and that should appeal to many but I still can't use this computer to put umlauts where they belong. :welcome:

Might I suggest that you also offer it on C.D. or DVD. It saves on paper and makes shipping to the U.S. easier. It is also helpful to have an ISBN.
Five hundred pages can add up to a lot of trees and unfortunately I tend to wear hard copies like this out too frequently. I have a headstamp book, but it is worn to tatters. I also can never find my hard copies and I have to go to my computer to use the C.D. or hard drive copy. You could copy protect it and probably sell a lot for cheaper.

Hello, thanks for the kind words.
Well, the idee with a CD is good ... but today it's nearly impossible to protect a CD. And if you sell one, ten will be copied  Also many people like it to use a "real" book instead of a digital book or data base. So you can take it with you in your gun room without needing a computer.

But you are right ... the price would be lower. Especially because of the damn postage

With best wishes
Michael

Well the best thing I can tell you is see how it sells in paper. When the market curve hits its peak and then starts to decline to about 1/2 the previous 3 month average then put a CD out. Its risky, but then you will have reaped the majority of single copy sales. If you make it cheap enough people won't bother to try to copy a copy protected CD, but will buy several copies. I remember when simple calculators were $125 and had 6 funtions. Now that they are cheaper I have more than 10. This of course is a bit stilted. I tend to be ocd in certain areas---have assembled 5 computers. I like backups on important information.
I would think that the only things people would mass copy would be movies, song albums and something that sells more than 25,000-100,000 copies a year. I do like hard copies, but I would want one I can divide into sections to carry around to dirty up or abuse. I have a little tendonitus and anything I can do to lessen the pain helps.

Hello,
I fully understand what you want to tell. It's hard to make the right decission

I think the best idea is to check out how the book sells during the next years. It's not a "best-seller" and (luckily) I do not have to do it for living. Special interest literature on guns is always hard to sell, especially in Germany and Europe with our gun laws getting more and more restricted.

One of the big parts on the price is the postage ... it's a shame how much it costs to send a book to the US :(

So let's wait what will happen in the future ....

With best wishes
Michael

very nice reference manual for this area of collecting , i admire those of you who can do this research , i know its exciting for the most part but suspect some of it to be quite tedious - compiling all those tables and charts

Oh yes, sometimes it was boring to work on the charts (especially to look for all the locations on old landmaps) ... but I wanted to bring it to an end. And I was really happy when it was finished ;)
