Here's one I got a few years ago from a familiar seller at a local gun show. The matching stock definitely had its exterior polished up beforehand so it looked nice for sale, and it's a bolt mismatch, but the barreled action is like new and is bedded perfectly in the stock as is. Good shooter, and a keeper

....even if the stock is pimp polished the tigerstriping seems to compliment it better than it were a battlefield all matching K98K...

Ha, yes, 'pimp polished' is correct .. good description that I'm gonna have to remember That the striping showed so well in that particular pic is an accident of angle and flash .. usually it can't be seen. The guy that sold me a number of the last toys I bought showed up at the Westland show for two straight winters some years ago, and he always had enough Mausers on his table to get my interest. He had formerly collected South American mausers, which is why he always had some on hand. Passed up on a beauty of an Argentinian that WAS almost pristine, but it had that funky caliber that I wasn't sure I could find anywhere. The only other gun of real collector value he had that hadn't been altered was a Yugoslav 1924 mauser, but it was in a little rougher original condition, and I was looking for primarily stuff I could use at the range. The last two I bought from him were a Garand and an M1 Carbine. That was way back in the winter of I think '06, and was the last time he made an appearance at the show .. lol, I think he'd finally sold off everything he was trying to sell.

You should have bought the Yugo Model 1924, just not a whole lot of them around if it was in good condition.

Best I remember, that '24 Yugo was in rough but decent condition ...
Honestly, I always looked for less expensive nonmatching versions of the old guns with metal in still great condition to experiment with for use as shooters ... as opposed to my shelling out the big bucks for the 'delicate' and expensive true collector items, which I knew from the start I never had the money to afford
If I had bought that '24 Yugo, it surely would have taken a place as a wall-hanger right next to the only other true 'collector' mauser I have, a K98k with some personal family history. Lotsa money hangin' there on the wall, doin' absolutely nothin' IMO
