Found an interesting G-98 over the weekend. The one I found is one most collectors would turn their noses up at, but advanced collectors get that it has its place in a collection because it tells a historic story. This Gewehr 98 was made for the Germans but clearly saw French service, the dead giveaway is seen in the second photo, the side cut out for a French Berthier style sling. This tells me the gun was either captured in combat or was part of reparation payments to France after WWI. The bore is quite nice and shiny, the crown is perfect. I had been wanting a nice WWI Mauser but unwilling to pay a fortune. This fits my collection of Mausers nicely, I already have a nice WWI era bayonet I have had since I was about 12 years old that fits perfectly, this is one I will enjoy shooting.
Note side cut on stock for French sling.
