stinkpotpete got me to remembering something with his new Mauser purchase. And yes I think I asked this a long time ago back in the old ez board days but!!

What do you call a German K98 rifle that is still a matching rifle with all the little birds still intact. Sometime it that ended up in the hands of the Yugoslavians either during or after the war. It has the Yugo crest on the receiver, and on the left side of the receiver is PREDUZECE44 and Mod98.

Do you call it a K98 or is there a different classification now that its Yugo marked. Its the middle rifle in the photos. I'll get some more photos tomorrow if needed. Are there any codes under the wood that would point to what year and maker of these rifles before the change.

I'd call it sweet! I believe they are called 98/48's.

Here's a pic of the one I have.

Other then the buttplate difference they could be brothers!!

So K98/48?

So, a correct bayonet would be for a K98 and not an M48? The cleaning rod seems to stick out more on the k98

Did the Germans have codes or numbers under the wood that would point to the year and manufacturer?

I looked under the wood on the receiver is the number 19 and some squiggles (like that word) no other markings to be found. The stock on the right side by the disc is the left over markings of the wings but thats all.

I will warn you I dug out 2 other K98's with this one so some more postings are on the way!

My Code 42 1938 dated K98 and

My rough BNZ 1943 K98 with a stock that looks just like the Japanese last ditch stocks with the rough chatter marks on it.

It has been pointed out to me that the Nazi markings maybe fake. If this is so then I hope others who are new to these rifles can learn from this!! I hope not but if its true I now have a 200.00 parts rifle.

Hi All,

First post here, I'm sorry its in regards to Mybusa's "faked" K98...A shame really as it was worth $200 without the stupid eagles and was a fine example before the bum made it non collectible...Bright side is its probably still a great shooter...As the other folks pointed out the birds are very fake but I wanted to mention the bolt numbering too: The Yugos liked to renumber the bolt arm for one..Also sadly this faker didnt even know how the Germans did it...They numbered the stem ..But..did it paralell to reciever...My sympathies Mybusa it has a very nicely struck Yugo crest and many of these have very nice bores too...I'm gonna try posting a couple German bolt pics(not my rifles) and also a pic of my Yugo Capture bolt
