Recently ran across two Mauser model 71's at a gun store. I was looking them over and noticed that the bores were tiny--much smaller than my .43 71/84 bore. Comparing them to a .303 Enfield, they appeared to be even smaller--possibly 7mm.

Anyone familiar with a small bore Mauser 71?

I believe that France modified some mausers for Uruguay, I think it was changed to 6.5 mm. What kind of price were they asking?

the french modified ones were called daudeteau's and were chambered in 6.5 daudeteau. IIRC, most of them were sold to paraguay.

sure it's not a steyr m1886? those are essentially a m71/84 in 8X60R.

just throwing out possibilities.

Both rifles have "ST. Denis" inscribed on the chamber area of the barrel.

Definatly Dautedau-St. Denis is where the conversion was done.-TR

Came to terms with the seller and got two 6.5 mm Daudateau M71 Mausers and a Russian Berdan II as part of the package







Now all I need is some .42 Russian ammo.

Thats gotta be a sweet one too.

I ordered the unformed brass, have primers ,powder, and untill I buy some bullets (that hopfully are patched pink), Ammo's still a project of mine as well.
I have a BerdanII Carbine I want to shoot a Bear with.
