I bought three of the Samco "no blue" Persian Mausers last year.

They have obviously had some sort of strong chemical used on them that removed some of the blueing and some of the finish on the stock. There is quite of bit of dried cosmoline on the metal, but the bores on all three were excellent.

I sent the metal from one of them out for reblue and it came back looking great. I also sent out the wood for refinishing and it also came back looking great

This was typical of the three that I got

It just about looks like an unissued one now.

If you do get one (or three), I highly recommend Blue Ridge Gunsmithing.

My positive review sums up my experience with Mark's work. He did a very nice hot blue of the Mauser for $75. As a bonus, he told me not to bother cleaning up the cosmo, as his tank would take care of the clean up.

I also highly recommend Reissued Surplus Rifles for stock refinishing. Larry has refinished a number of milsurp rifles for me and does absolutely first class work for very reasonable prices

Thanks, guys

Got a chance to shoot the Persian over the weekend. After half dozen rounds, either me or the rifle settled down and put the last 5 rounds into a group of about 1.5-2" @ 200 yards

Thanks for the kind comments, guys

I shot my Persian again yesterday and was pleased with the initial results (shown on the left)

Later, I fired a second string and was a little disappointed because the group had opened up (shown on the right) Both groups shot @100 yards with Prvi 196 grain sp's.

As I was packing up, noticed that the front barrel band had somehow come loose and slipped forward on the bayo lug. Could this have resulted in the group opening up?

It certainly could have. The fit at the bayonet lug is pretty important, perhaps the most important bedding point with the stepped barrels.

A friend once ran off some pages with original Mauser factory specs for bedding the various Military Mausers.

I think I saw the folder with those photo copies a couple of weeks back, I'll see if I can find them again.
