:-o :-o :-o I kept telling myself just drive home , don't stop at any gun shops, but my primal instincts kicked in and I stopped, they had a couple of over priced Spanish mausers in .308 for $200. then I spotted a M48 yugo mint full of cosmo, I about had a fit when I saw the $450 price tag, the I picked up this gem , I looked it over, every thing matched except the stock and it was minus the cleaning rod. I then looked at the tag and OMG! $75 that could not be right, but sure enough it was, he did have it mis marked as an 8mm though. I can't wait to shoot it. This is an old Samco global import.

DWM put some nice stocks on the 95's. Nice to see that L. Lowe did the same.

Here's a DWM Chilean 95 in 7.62N. :

Image

Nice looking rifle, but the Chilean armory that handled the conversion from 7X57 to 7.62N. opted to re-cut chambers, and open the bore up with a 2 groove cutter. Bore on this one looks almost ovalized. Gun can't hit the broadside of a barn from the inside, despite it's good trigger. I need to find a 7X57 bbl for it, in order to enjoy it properly.

Contraption above is an Fr-8 rescued from a badly cosmo soaked, and split at the wrist stock. Before anyone grumbles about what I did to the rifle, consider that I spent close to 8 years trying to find a replacement stock. I gave up, and went with the sporter pictured. Gun will put 3 through a dime at 100 from rest.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

There used to be regular adverts for DWM manufactured in the white 7mm barrels imported from south america.
Don't remember the details, but I think most were carbine length and may have been for the 98 large ring actions.

There might be a few 7mm 95 long rifle barrels still out there some where, hope you find one.

You might even consider getting a worn 6.5X55 take off barrel and having it rebored. Only problem there would be if the base of the original chamber is too wide.

PS someone mentioned on another forum that some .30-06 and .308 south american barrels had been newly made using WW2 surplus boring and rifling machinery meant for the 03A3 springfield barrels.
Your rifle might handle cast bullets okay, it would be worth a try.

That 7X57 bbl would be the optimal ideal for me. Whether it's do-able, or not, remains to be seen. I've been long intrigued by the cartridge, and have never experienced it first hand. O'Connor's musings about wife Eleanor using it for everything from mice to African lions have stayed with me all these decades :P

I'm hesitant concerning high intensity fodder for it. De-Haas never thought much of souping these guns up, pressure wise. I tend to agree with that quite a bit... As well as the gun has been made, I can't quite see stretching the design limits.

I have plenty enough to keep me occupied-shooting wise- these days. There's no urgent rush to it, but I'd like to see it a shooter, before I pack it in.

Regards,

Doc Sharptail

That's a very nice rifle, very well marked, and at $75 you stole it. The $450 price on a mint M48 is a shock, makes me feel better about what I paid for mine.

Well I just need to find a correct cleaning rod for it and it will be complete.
