Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Thanks for joining us from the administration.

Verifying speed of milsurp IMR 4895
I was curious as to how my milsurp IMR 4895 pull-down powder compared in speed to cannister grade IMR 4895 tested by one of the bullet makers. Using a 150 gr. bullet over 44.0 grains, checked against the data given by Speer, I came up with 2464 fps. against 2428 given in the Speer book. That's pretty close. This milsurp powder came from Jeff Bartlett in Kentucky. I had an earlier batch that clocked 2370 fps, a little slower.

Update 9-5-07:
The reference to milsurp pull-down "IMR 4895" powder is probably a misnomer. Most of the 4895 pull-down powder offered for sale has been from late 1960's military surplus ammo. The manufacturer of that powder at the time was DuPont, not the later IMR.
Additionally, there was another powder used by the military about the same time with the same approximate burning characteristics as DuPont 4895. I have forgotten the details, but it seems that this powder was made in Canada. In recent times, it has been sold along with the bona fide milsurp DuPont 4895 and labeled erroneously as such.
