Cast Bullet Loading for 9mm Parabellum

Yes, we've talked before about if this is even worth doing, but when you have the supplies sitting around, well, you just do it anyway.

I have experimented with 6 powders lately and found one I like a lot. It is dear old PB powder, originally made by DuPont, now marketed by IMR (Hodgdon). PB has been around for a long time; PB stands for "porous base". I disdained this powder for quite a while, but not now. I got a couple of 8 ounce cans a couple of years ago for $2 apiece and was determined to find a use for them. Now I wonder, "do I have enough to last me?"

Results, using 124 grain lead conical flat nose hard cast bullets. WW brass and small pistol primers used.

3.3 916 6.52
3.5 988 11.48
3.7 1010 8.34

Accuracy was acceptable within hand-held pistol standards for me at 25 yards, with groups in the 2 to 4 inch range.

I used my Smith & Wesson Model 547 9mm revolver for these tests and no leading of the barrel was observed.
