I put this in another post, but I liked this load so much that I thought I would give it a post of its own.

Here’s an excellent load:

205 grain RN lead cast bullet (Lee mold) gas checked
7.0 grains Trail Boss
Graf 8x56R case
WW LR primer (non-magnum)
Average muzzle velocity: 831
Standard deviation: 16.21
This very accurate load printed one inch high from center of target @ 50 yards. Very accurate. Sub-sonic load, very quiet, no recoil, very clean, no smoking of case, must seal well in spite of small load. Far superior to sub-sonic loads with Unique or Red Dot.

In reviewing my notes, I see I did some work with Trail Boss and the 205 grain RNL (Lee mold) previously. That time, I hadn't reviewed other rifle load data for using Trail Boss with lead rifle bullets. At that time, I used 11.0 grains of Trail Boss. My notes show that while the velocity was in the area of 1100 plus fps, accuracy was terrible and POI was actually much lower than the 7.0 grain load.

I liked "Walnuthead", and "Swede's" good too. I stuck with my old handle on the new forum; probably some of the other members would like to have changed it for me, but I'd hate to think about to what.

Re. your question about using Trail Boss in 7.62x54R. They are similar in shape; better yet, in looking at the other recommended rifle loads WITH LEAD BULLETS, in fairly similar calibers, the spread wasn't big. I think you'd have no problem with 7.0 grains of Trail Boss pushing a lead bullet of 150-200 grains in 7.62x54R.

Remember, LEAD BULLETS ONLY ahead of Trail Boss. It was made for low-pressure, lower-speed loads.

Thanks gschwertley, I'm going to have to give it a try. Also picked up some 400gr & 510gr to use in the .45-70 with Trail Boss.

Sometimes I think maybe I should have kept walnuthead, it was more descriptive.
