Has anyone else reloaded .38 Spls with X-700? I tried it as a substitute for Unique and Bullseye back when both were scarce.

I loaded some with 130-gr. Armscor FMJ bullets and shot them out of my S&W 64. They were pretty snappy out of that heavy-barreled revolver. But for some reason I never could get the cases to crip tight enough on those bullets to keep them from wiggling a little. I also noticed there was unburned flakes of powder residue meaning they weren't tight enough for a 100% burn.

I later loaded more with 125-gr coated cast semi-wadcutters - with a tight crimp. Unfortunately, the group I shoot with had to stop because of Covid, and we've just never gotten back to it.

I've tried some odd powders - mostly because it's what I had and couldn't afford what I wanted. Tried green dot once - no X700 though. Now I'm still working on a keg of Bullseye. SW

ETA: thinking further on the matter - did you mean 700X? I've used that for 38 spl, and it works okay.

I used to have a friend (RIP) load for me, I would give him brass and some cash and he would give me an ammo can full of 38 SWC to enjoy,

I have a few 100 round mtm boxes, that still shoot very well in my 66 3 inch and Mod 15 4 inch

his notes say HP-38. and Bullseye for SWC and WC's

I have a decent load with W231 (it's what I had at the time)

yes , all my loading is cast lead as thats all that is acceptable in SASS/CAS but id not hesitate to load FMJ with a similar or slightly heavier powder charge ,

yes i have , ill not discourage but i dont spend the extra because i didnt see that much difference , again my purpose is large close steel for SASS the accuracy is a relevant factor more for the shooter than the loads , i can miss them really well :jmp:
