Post subject: | Russian belted ammo |
I have a russian ammo can of belted ammo, that I'm pretty sure is for machine guns think it would be too much for a bolt rifle? I'm not sure how much hotter it would be/is. The ammo can is kinda cool looking, and it's 250 rounds, but no tracers but I did find a guy who was selling tracers, the green tipped ones. I thought about putting them in the belt and shooting the ones I take out, but I don't wanna wreck anything or lose an eye Here're a couple of pics they've got a yellow-orangish tip this is what I call my magazine and open |

Thanks, it was a container for russian captured K98s, I got for free from FAC, before century acquired them. I figured I could lots of stuff in it, I was surprised how fast it filled up |

Usually yellow-orange denotes heavy ball IIRC 180 gr. What is the headstamp? I cannot read every thing because of glare and distance. |

It's a mix, 270 over 48, 158 over ??, 33 over 52 I bought it at sportsmansguide, they probably put it together themselves. The top of the can is marked 200 with a yellow bar and 50 with a green bar. So, does this even sound like it's still machinegun ammo? |

Go to mosin nagant.net and look under ammo. There is one special round listed as dangerous to shoot in rifles and it is specially marked with a cyrllic symbol at the rim edge. According to the information your ammo is the D round and is 172 grains. I cannot find any Russian factory numbers that match with the ones you gave. I have a book on headstamp listings, but cannot get to it????? |

I found two Russian factories. 270= Voroshilovgrad----also given is Lugansk, Ukraine?? 188= Novosibirsk perhaps it is 188 and not 158?? No 158 listed. Found a #33, but it is Waffenwerkbrunn, Czech Republic This is sort of like a scavenger hunt. |
