ive read about wheel weights , and it crossed my mind the other day when a freind handed me a few pounds of large lead sinkers that they might be useable for this ,

i dont use many sinkers these days , ive got a handfull of brass weights for carolina rigs and some of the new painted steel bullet weights for texas rigs , and a handfull of split shot for everything else ,

these are large 7/8 to 1-5/8 and a few larger yet ,

any reason i couldnt use them ?

IIRC pure lead is good for about 1200-1350 f/s for BP rifles. If it is not alloyed it will deform once out of the barrel if the bullet velocity is much faster than this. I saw some high speed photos of minie or hollow base 58 cal bullets in flight and they can get pretty distorted when going too fast. I do not know how well pure lead bullets hold up if solid base.
