I went to the gun range today, and one of the rifles I took was my surplus Czech VZ-24 Mauser. A few years ago, I bought one of those metal cans full of Romanian 8mm Mauser ammo. I've never tried it, so today was the day. This is the stuff with the steel case. I only fired 15 rounds (one box). Accuracy was very good; what I didn't like is that the cases don't seem to seal well. They are very sooty looking after firing, and the bolt and action were filthy after the 15 rounds. I can only guess that the steel cases do not seal at the mouth of the case at the time of firing as brass does.

That is it. They are also lower pressure than other milsurp ammo. This also prevents the neck from expanding & sealing as it should

Well, I guess it wasn't my imagination that I didn't seem to feel as much recoil as usual. Maybe they did this as a margin for safety on what is a wide range of vintage weapons.

Before I fired any of these, I had considered breaking them down and using the components in commercial cases. I may still do that with some of them. Trouble is, that steel case is more difficult to break down.

Yes, accuracy was good. As it says right there in the Speer reloading manual, maximum loads aren't always the most accurate.
