The wiley Bruce sold me a Roumanian tokarev & since I am too cheep to buy loaded ammo, does anyone have an accurate load? A cast boolet load? A forum friend hooked me up with 100# of linotype, so I can cast 'em hard.

When I was a teenager, I had a couple of Mauser military pistols in 7.63mm Mauser, and I used to day-dream about reloading for those but never did. At the time, we could get Finnish 7.62x25mm surplus and that worked fine in the Mausers. Back then, Mauser military pistols were more common than Tokarevs.

Anyway, when you look for reloading supplies/equipment for 7.62x25 it will sometimes be found under ".30 Mauser". Lee makes a set of dies for around $24, and a set from RCBS will cost you $60. You can get a bullet mold from Lee in an appropriate weight for about $24. Starline makes new unfired brass in 7.62x25, they cost 18 to 20 cents apiece, and for that price, you'll be hunting for them in the prairie grass.

You should get a load data sheet with them if you buy the Lee dies.

So, to start up with your first hundred rounds, you will spend around a minimum of $65, not counting any shipping involved, and not counting primers (about 2 cent each now) and not counting energy to cast bullets. We won't even count the powder at all, because you use so little of it in these small fellers. Of course as handloaders, we know that you will be re-using your brass again (the ones you find), and the equipment gets amortized out over many more rounds than your first hundred.

On the other hand, this is one caliber that is still fairly cheap as milsurp ammo goes. I was just drifting around on the net looking at what it costs now. Some that are available: S&B new, loaded ammo, boxer primed with re-useable brass, about $16 per 50; Winchester (prob. made in e. Europe), same thing, about $20 per 50; milsurp Combloc ammo, about $9.00 for 72 shots, or 360 shots for about $43, or 1,224 shots for $135.

For this caliber at the moment looking at time used against money spent, you're probably better off driving a locomotive than loading it, but handloading isn't always about money. I've wasted lots of time doing it. I used to load .32 acp "just because I could" and sometimes even used cast bullets.

While it might not seem a sensible idea, it does reduce one's dependence on foreign surplus ammunition. It also makes a political statement albeit in a small way. When the forces of Evil ( hitlery & pals) plot & scheme legislation to eliminate further importation of such ammunition, they would be affecting me much less than others.

Them: "Ha ha! We have eliminated your source of foreign ammunition for that wicked handgun!"

Me: "BFD. I don' need no steenking foreign ammo. Neener! " Okay, that's a stretch, but I still like the feeling I can make my own ammo when the mood strikes.

That and I do hope to acquire a C-96 one of these fine days. SW

The Hornady 90 gr. XTP bullet with 8.0 grs. AA#7 shoots great in my CZ52.

If you want me to make you a copy of the Hornady, Lee and Lyman data let me know and I will mail it to you.

I do have some cast boolet data here somewhere Hogger.

I will dig it out and post it as soon as I unearth it.
