I've been using 2 types of bullets in my SVT40 until now.
First there was the Hornady .312 174 grains RN.
No good results at all.
The bullets landed all over the place.
Then I had the Hornady .312 150 grains Spire Point.
It didn't perform bad, but I thought I could do better.
I used the Finnish VihtaVuori N140 powder trying all different kinds of loads behind both bullets.

Now I've bought the Prvi Partisan 185 grains Spitser.
I think the boat tale will give me a better result.

I will empty some cases with the 150 grains Hornady coming Sunday and will reload with the 185 grains Prvi Partisan.

I'll keep you all posted.

Here's a picture of the bullets I used so far.

From left to right:
* 185 grains Prvi Partisan
* 150 grains Hornady
* 174 grains Hornady

If anyone has some experience with this particular cartridge let me know.
I can always use the extra reloading data.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

Martin,

I think you are taking the right approach. When working up accurate loads for old military rifles, I try to duplicate the original as closely as I can, and that's why I suggested the 345 grain Lee bullet for the Dutch Beaumont - it is very close to the original.

I pulled down some Bulgarian 7.62x54R ammunition recently, and it had the 'boat tail' style bullet you show here.

That bullet was very accurate in my 1942 Tikka/ NEW M91 Mosin-Nagant long rifle using 43.0 grains of Varget powder. The hornady .312 150 grain bullet also shot well with the same powder charge.

Hopefully, you will see similar accuracy in your SVT.

By the way, Hornady bullets are made in Nebraska, and I've been in the factory many times. Something else in Nebraska made the trip to your home! :bigrin: SW

Thanks SW.
I'll start reloading using the Prvi Partisan in a week or two.
Still have some cartridges left with the 150 grains Hornady.
You are right about the 150 grains Hornady.
Accuracy is not bad, but I expect better accuracy from the 185 grains boat tail.
I'll keep you posted.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

BTW: Good things came over from Nebraska. :D
Thanks a million SW.
